I’ve had my differences with Megyn Kelly, but I respect her. Most of the time she is an excellent journalist… every once in a while she lets her personal feelings bleed through which I take issue with. Having said that, I truly believe her when she says she was sexually harassed by Roger Ailes. She’s far from alone on that front at Fox News. On Dr. Phil and in her new book, she discusses it candidly.
Bill O’Reilly, who I do not care for and pretty much never have, criticized Megyn Kelly while he was on CBS This Morning yesterday. While on the one hand he praised her, on the other hand he basically insinuated that she made Fox News look bad by coming forward. Not cool. O’Reilly still supports Ailes all the way. However, I can understand not having her on his show to thrash all this out. Nobody wins over that.
From the Daily Mail:
Bill O’Reilly appeared to criticize Megyn Kelly and her decision to publicly speak about being sexually harassed by Roger Ailes during an appearance on CBS This Morning on Tuesday.
The popular host of The O’Reilly Factor was promoting his new children’s book, Give Please a Chance, when he was asked about Kelly’s memoir Settle For More, which is also being released on Tuesday.
O’Reilly said he had not had a chance to read the book because he was not given an early copy, while also stating: ‘Look, I’m trying to stay out of any of that stuff. I wish her well. She’s a very smart woman. It’s a tough book environment. We’ll see if people respond to it.’
He was then asked if Kelly might appear on his show to which he replied: ‘I don’t know. We’ll see if she’s going to be on the show or not. I want to be that candid. I’m not that interested in this.’
That is when anchor Norah O’Donnell, a longtime friend of O’Reilly’s, cut in and asked: ‘You’re not interested in sexual harassment?’
A clearly annoyed and angry O’Reilly replied to this by saying: ‘I’m not interested in basically litigating something that is finished that makes my network look bad. Okay?
‘I’m not interested in making my network look bad at all. That doesn’t interest me one bit.’
O’Reilly seemed to get angry and lose his cool over everyone attacking Fox News. That just makes it even worse. O’Reilly is a big boy, he knows how to sidestep loaded questions like that. He stumbled and now there will be even more flack coming his way as well as Fox’s. You know how the media is… they seize on any little weakness. They sense war between Kelly and O’Reilly, so they want to play it up. Ailes gave Fox News a bloody nose, so they want to build on that. The way you fight bullies is to show them they have no effect on you, not get angry at them.
Both Kelly’s and O’Reilly’s contracts are up next year. They hold the two top slots at the network. Who knows how that will play out. In a sense, it is a war to see who will come out on top. That’s the news business… it’s not pretty or gentle by any means. Word has it that Murdoch wants O’Reilly gone when his contract expires. It’s a pretty sure bet one of the two will exit stage right next year.
