Vince Vaughn and Mel Gibson to Star in Controversial Police Movie

Two of Hollywood’s most visible conservatives — Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn — are teaming up in a movie about two rogue cops.

According to Variety, Gibson and Vaughn will star in “Dragged Across Concrete,” a film by “Bone Tomahawk” director S. Craig Zahler. The film is a thriller centering around police tactics.

“Gibson and Vaughn will play cops who are suspended when a video of their strong-arm tactics gets wide attention,” Variety wrote. “They then descend into the criminal underworld to exact vengeance.”

Vaughn and Gibson have never starred opposite each other in a movie before, although Vaughn did have a supporting role in the Gibson-directed 2016 film “Hacksaw Ridge” and a bit part in another, 2004’s “Paparazzi.”

“‘Dragged Across Concrete’ is best suited to my goal of making a heartfelt, surprising, sad, funny, shocking, and memorable world with multiple viewpoints,” director Zahler told Variety. “As is often the case in my novels and screenplays, the protagonists are in perilous circumstances against which they struggle in different and surprising — though logical — ways.  I am absolutely thrilled to have Mel and Vince agree to play the lead roles.”

Gibson has always been a high-profile supporter of conservative causes, but Vaughn has been more discreet about his political leanings.

According to Politico, the “Wedding Crashers” star described himself as a conservative during a 2013 interview.

“I’m very supportive of Ron Paul, but I’ve always been, you know, more conservative than not,” Vaughn told comedian and podcast host Adam Carolla.

“I think that when you get older, you just get less trust in the government running anything. And that you start to realize when you really go back and look at the Constitution and the principles of liberty, the real purpose of government is to protect the individual’s right to sort of think and pursue what they have interest in,” he continued.

“And that when you start drawing the lines, saying, as a society, we think this is inappropriate, we’re going to pass laws to protect them from themselves and or take things away … you realize that you wake up with corruption,” he added.

Last August, Vaughn and Gibson also spoke together at the Disabled American Veterans’ 95th National Convention.

We’re looking forward to seeing these two Hollywood conservatives together on the big screen.
