Muslims in America have increasingly taken the stance that they are an aggrieved and put upon segment of the American population, and that they suffer from a horrendous amount of anti-Muslim bigotry.
So it comes as no surprise then that a recent incident on an airplane has been spun up into a major production by an Islamic special interest group that focuses on alleged discrimination against Muslims.
Hider alleges that she was harassed by another passenger over her head covering, or hijab, that she was wearing. She claims that she was told “This is America!” and insulted for her Islamic faith.
According to Hider, a flight attendant asked her and her kids to move to different seats, away from the person who was doing the alleged harassment. Hider believes that the other person should have been asked to move, or removed from the flight, instead of her, and claims that she was discriminated against.
Rather conveniently, Hidar’s brother, Abed Ayoub, just so happens to be the legal and policy director of the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee. He quickly let loose with a series of Tweets condemning the airline for their “bigotry” towards his sister and inaction towards the alleged harasser.
A spokesman for Delta, Brian Kruse, said, “We have been in touch with the customer. We have been reviewing the situation. Delta does not condone discrimination of any kind.”
A grainy and virtually inaudible video has been released of the incident, taken on the cellphone of another passenger on the flight. It shows a flight attendant talking to the involved parties, and Hidar getting up and moving to another seat.
However, the video doesn’t show the initial alleged confrontation, nor is it really all that conclusive towards the claims of discrimination and mistreatment of Hidar on behalf of the airline’s crew.
Obviously, we here at Conservative Tribune do not condone bigotry and discrimination of any kind, no matter who is on the receiving end of it.
That being said, we also don’t condone the false accusations of bigotry and harassment that some individuals and organizations are utilizing to garner attention for their cause, or to promote an agenda.
If this woman truly was harassed, which is not at all apparent from the short and inconclusive video, then the individual who harassed her, and the flight attendant who didn’t stop it, should be dealt with.
If, on the other hand, this is just a PR stunt or ploy by an obviously agenda-driven man, namely Abed Ayoub of the ADC, then they should be compelled to apologize to the airline, the flight crew, the other passengers, and the person that they falsely accused of bigotry and harassment.
