Video footage confirmed yet again that the Air Force’s A-10 Warthog is just as important in delivering justice to enemy combatants as it ever was. The video was uploaded a few years ago, but it is still relevant as the U.S. continues to battle terrorism on a daily basis.

In the video, a U.S. soldier found himself engaged with and apparently surrounded by 10 or 15 insurgents in Afghanistan. The gunman fired blindly into brush only 50-100 meters away. You could hear the intensity in his voice as he attempted to fight off hidden enemies.

The soldier called upon help from an A-10 Warthog, one of the most efficient aircraft in the military.

The gunman guided the A-10 the location, and within moments the familiar roar of the Warthog could be heard. After several passes — and shots from the 30 mm cannon aboard the aircraft — the soldier finally reported that the area was clear.

Watch the video below.

The A-10 Warthog is one of the few aircraft to provide close air support to our troops on the ground.

Recently, there has been talk of retiring the Warthog, but situations like the one in this video demonstrate how effective the aircraft can be. As we continue to battle the force of evil known as the Islamic State group, our troops need all the support they can get.

Videos like these never fail to express the extreme danger our soldiers go through. Those of us who have never experienced battle can never fully comprehend what is it like, but these images help us realize the peril faced by those who serve in the military. It is not pretty, and we can never thank them enough for their service.
