President-elect Donald Trump ran a campaign promising to “drain the swamp” of corruption and incompetence in Washington, D.C., and we can’t wait for him to be sworn in and start doing just that.
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is one of the nastiest sections of that particular swamp, and it proves that every day. Just recently the body of a veteran was left alone in a room for nine hours, and then the staff tried to cover up its actions, the Tampa Bay Times reported.
No information was provided about the how the veteran died, nor was it clear if those behind this horrific act were even fired. Government accountability at its finest.
The staff at the VA never made the proper contacts to have the veteran’s body transported, so the remains simply sat around for hours on end, decomposing, and then the staff tried to forge paperwork to blame its utter incompetence on a communication error.
Fox News noted that the VA hospital in question ordered retraining for its staff and conducted an internal investigation into the matter, but it does not appear that any serious actions were taken to punish those responsible.
“Unsurprisingly, not a single VA employee has been fired following this incident, despite a clear lack of concern and respect for the veteran. The men and women who sacrificed on behalf of our nation deserve better,” Florida Republican Rep. Gus Bilirakis said in a statement.
The veteran at the center of this report died in February, yet we are just learning about this now through a heavily redacted report, according to The Washington Post.
There is absolutely no accountability in Washington, D.C., anymore, and that needs to end.
America’s veterans gave everything for their country. The least we can do is give them decent facilities and people who actually care about treating them — not covering their own behinds.
