American manufacturing is ready to make good on its promise: Give us the tools and the freedom to be successful, and we’ll rebuild this country.
There’s plenty of optimism to go around these days as businesses prepare for president-elect Donald Trump to take office. At United States Steel, they’re ready to hit the ground running, according to Townhall.
“We already structured to do some things, but when you see in the near future improvement to the tax laws, improvements to regulation, those two things by themselves may be a significant driver to what we’re going to do,” CEO Mario Longhi told CNBC.
Longhi expressed his desire to bring back as many as 10,000 workers in the U.S. steel industry as a whole. Promises of less regulation play a significant role in the optimistic outlook.
Longhi said not all regulation is bad, it just “has to be done smartly. There was a point in time in the past couple years that I was having to hire more lawyers to try to interpret these new regulations than I was hiring … engineers. That doesn’t make any sense.”
Shares of U.S. Steel have skyrocketed since the election, likely a result of Trump’s pledge to increase the nation’s infrastructure spending and place more restrictions on China-produced steel.
Trump’s new pick for secretary of the treasury, Steve Mnuchin, told CNBC on Wednesday that his focus will be stimulating economic growth and creating jobs through tax reform.
“By cutting corporate taxes, we’re going to create huge economic growth and we’ll have huge personal income,” Mnuchin said.
Americans have a reputation the world over as hard workers. It’s in our DNA to be productive and driven. Donald Trump has gotten the message: We just want to get back to work.
Trump has a lot to deliver. It appears that the steel industry, which has so much at stake, believes in him. Although he hasn’t even taken office yet, there seems to be a lot of optimism for Trump’s new America, and this is just the beginning.
