Throughout the general election, President-elect Donald Trump promised to open a special investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while she was secretary of state.
“I think Hillary Clinton still has to face the fact that a majority of Americans don’t find her to be honest or trustworthy, but if Donald Trump can help her heal, then perhaps that’s a good thing,” Conway explained on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
No mention was made of the FBI’s investigation into the Clinton Foundation — an investigation that as far as we know is still ongoing — but Conway did admit that Trump was backing off of his campaign promise, CNN noted.
“Look, I think he’s thinking of many different things as he prepares to become the president of the United States, and things that sound like the campaign are not among them,” she stated.
Trump’s promises to “lock her up” really escalated during the second presidential debate when he vowed to appoint a special prosecutor and remarked that if she had used a private server when he was president she would have been thrown in jail.
At almost every rally Trump held, the crowd would repeatedly chant “Lock her up!” and sometimes Trump would join them and repeat his promise to investigate her.
Fox News did note that even though Trump wasn’t going to appoint a special persecutor to go after Clinton, congressional Republicans could still open an investigation and refer any findings to the Justice Department.
Undoubtedly the Trump campaign will comment on this stunning development further, and we will bring you the details when they do.
