President Donald Trump began his day Saturday by denouncing CNN and the New York Times for spreading “fake news.”

But one more shot was yet to come.

Later in the day, Trump announced he will not be breaking bread with media outlet he has said are “the enemy.”

“I will not be attending the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner this year. Please wish everyone well and have a great evening!” Trump tweeted Saturday afternoon.

The White House Correspondents’ Association, which on Friday was expressing outrage that a media briefing had been held without inviting some media outlets that have been attacking Trump, said in a statement that it “looks forward to having its annual dinner on April 29.”

WHCA president Jeff Mason said the dinner “has been and will continue to be a celebration of the First Amendment and the important role played by an independent news media in a healthy republic.”

Trump last attended the diner in 2011, when former President Barack Obama was in the White House. The event is traditionally a time for the president and other political leaders to have a generally lighthearted, non-political event.

It was at the 2011 event where Obama made Trump the butt of several jokes. In fact, the barbs were so pointed that many who were there believe the event played a role in motivating Trump to run for president in 2016.

One of the jokes took aim at Trump’s role in promoting the possibility that Obama did not have a legitimate birth certificate.

“Now, I know that he’s taken some flak lately but no one is prouder to put this birth certificate matter to rest than The Donald,” Obama said. “And that’s because he can finally get back to focusing on the issues that matter, like, did we fake the moon landing? What really happened in Roswell? And where are Biggie and Tupac?”

Since the start of his presidential campaign, Trump has been attacking the media. Last week at a Florida rally he reviled “the dishonest media which has published one false story after another with no sources, even though they pretend they have them, they make them up in many cases, they just don’t want to report the truth and they’ve been calling us wrong now for two years. They don’t get it. But they’re starting to get it. I can tell you that. They’ve become a big part of the problem.”
