President-elect Donald Trump continues to astound and amaze.
Trump’s picks for the best and brightest leaders have ben so diverse and so insightful that liberals and conservatives alike should be impressed.
Kathleen Troia “KT” McFarland has been tapped to be deputy national security advisor, according to The Daily Caller. And in a handy slap to Trump-hating liberals, she was his third female appointee in as many days, as pointed out by the New York Post.
Citing McFarland’s “tremendous experience and innate talent,” Trump has been moving quickly to build an administration from the ground up, according to The Associated Press.
A national security analyst for Fox News, McFarland is no lightweight. She held national security posts in the Nixon, Ford and Reagan administrations. Long a critic of President Barack Obama‘s approach to terrorism, she is the perfect fit for an incoming president who has vowed to make our national security his highest priority.
McFarland served as an aide to Dr. Henry Kissinger on the National Security Council staff from 1970 to 1976 during the Nixon and Ford presidencies. During the early Reagan administration, she was a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee staff. She later became Reagan’s principal deputy assistant secretary of defense and Pentagon spokeswoman.
McFarland is no stranger to the minefield of politics, either. She ran unsuccessfully in 2006 to defeat then-Sen. Hillary Clinton in the New York Republican primary.
McFarland’s academic credentials are a prime example of the brainpower Trump has been using to stock his cabinet. She holds bachelor’s degrees from both George Washington University and Oxford University, and a master’s degree from Oxford. She went on to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology doctoral program, where she studied nuclear weapons, China and the Soviet Union.
McFarland received graduate fellowships from the Ford Foundation, the Institute for the Study of World Politics and the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency.
In the new Trump administration, McFarland will answer directly to the incoming national security advisor, retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn.
