In response to an apparent terror attack Monday evening in Berlin in which a truck driven by suspected Islamic radicals plowed into a crowd, killing at least 12 and injuring dozens more, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump issued a statement condemning Islamic terrorism and laying out his brutal solution to this pressing problem.
“Our hearts and prayers are with the loved ones of the victims of today’s horrifying terror attack in Berlin. Innocent civilians were murdered in the streets as they prepared to celebrate the Christmas holiday,” the statement published Monday evening read.
“ISIS and other Islamist terrorists continually slaughter Christians in their communities and places of worship as part of their global jihad,” it continued.
“These terrorists and their regional and worldwide networks must be eradicated from the face of the earth, a mission we will carry out with all freedom-loving partners,” Trump said.
Unsurprisingly, President Barack Obama and his White House officials chose to respond differently.
Monday evening the U.K. Daily Mail reported that the White House had confirmed that the president, who at the time was reportedly teeing off on the golf course while on vacation in Hawaii, had been apprised of the situation. As was typical of Obama, he refrained from issuing his own statement.
However, U.S. National Security Council spokesman Ned Prince reportedly later issued one for him on the White House web site, though it made no mentions of Islam, stating only that the U.S. condemned “what appears to have been a terrorist attack.”
“We send our thoughts and prayers to the families and loved ones of those killed, just as we wish a speedy recovery to all of those wounded,” the statement read. “We also extend our heartfelt condolences to the people and Government of Germany. We have been in touch with German officials, and we stand ready to provide assistance as they recover from and investigate this horrific incident.”
Unlike the president-elect’s statement, the White House’s one lacked any hint of strength or resolve. Frankly, it reeked of the fecklessness and cowardice of an administration clearly unwilling even to name the enemy: radical Islam.
Even The Atlantic, a left-leaning magazine, noticed this contrast, though it chose to praise Obama for “exercis(ing) caution.”
Apparently, someone forgot to tell the outlet’s writers that if it quacks like a radical Islamic terrorist, swims like a radical Islamic terrorist and looks like a radical Islamic terrorist, it is most likely exactly that.
