Even though President Donald Trump has only been in office for a few weeks, he is already looking towards the next big thing — his re-election campaign in 2020.
Trump isn’t letting the sweet taste of victory over former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton get in the way of planning for the future. In fact, Trump is already fundraising for 2020, Politico reported.
The three committees that worked to get Trump elected raised roughly $11 million towards his 2020 reelection campaign in December, to end the year with $16 million overall.
These funds will be used to maintain databases, recruit volunteers, and otherwise keep the massive political machine that Trump built ready for the next time he needs to use it.
Trump is smart to look ahead to 2020, just as the Democrats are doing. The Democrat party is desperately looking for someone to emerge from the the 2016 defeat who could be a strong challenger to Trump.
The Hill reported in a separate article that so far there are 15 potential Democrats who could run in 2020. The list includes names like Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warner, New Jersey Sen. Corey Booker, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and other big government liberals.
In four years, Trump should have an easier time running because he will have actually accomplished a great deal for America, and will have a solid record to run on.
Based on what Trump has done so far, we can expect the next four years to be jam-packed with changes that America has desperately needed.
While Trump is looking to 2020, the next logical question to ask is which Republican is looking ahead even further to 2024 to keep Trump’s legacy going? Only time will tell!
