Trump Notes Importance Of Women On International Womens Day

President Donald Trump saluted the role of women in society Wednesday as the world marked International Women’s Day.

“On International Women’s Day, join me in honoring the critical role of women here in America & around the world,” he also tweeted.

Ivanka Trump joined in.

Wednesday is also being highlighted by protesters as “A Day Without a Woman.” Women are being urged to attend local rallies sponsored by community groups and stay away from work or shopping as a demonstration of their importance.

Although women often wield power in American society, they also face a double standard, and in some cases, a triple standard, White House counselor Kellyanne Conway recently noted.

During a Sunday interview on CBS, Norah O’Donnell asked Conway about a picture of Conway on an Oval Office couch in a pose that was taken to be a breach of White House decorum.

“We’re constantly going back to where I sat, the presumptive negativity of what I wore or what I said, and I do think it’s a triple-standard, I hate to tell you,” Conway said.

“And what does that mean, a ‘triple-standard’?” O’Donnell asked.

“Well, people talk about the double-standard of what a woman wears, not what she said or what she was doing X, Y and Z. The triple standard is that, you know, conservative women are held to — you know, are just cast aside many times by traditional feminist outlets and individuals who control a great deal of the media,” Conway said.

She noted, however, that she has come to accept this in her new role.

“I mean, I can’t let the haters get to me or to the president. What he’s doing here is so big.”

In the interview, Conway noted the power of women.

“I grew up in a house of all women. My mother, her mother and two of my mother’s unmarried sisters raised me. So these four Italian Catholic women raised me in this house. And that has benefited me tremendously, because there’s a certain humility that will never go away,” she said.

Conway has praised Trump as “a family man” who supports women.

“Donald Trump is someone who is not fully understood for how compassionate and what a great boss he is to women,” Conway said.
