Trump Meets With Gen. James “Mad Dog” Mattis Amid Rumors of His Name on List for Defense Sec.

President-elect Donald Trump has been working furiously over the past week to interview people for potential positions in his administration and has stoked massive amounts of speculation from the media.

Trump has officially announced who will be filling only a few positions. The next one that is coming up that is fueling intense speculation is secretary of defense — and there already is a front-runner, The Washington Examiner reported.

Retired Marine Gen. James “Mad Dog” Mattis met with Trump on Saturday, and Trump couldn’t stop praising the man after the meeting, calling him the “real deal.”

“He’s just a brilliant, wonderful man. What a career. We are going to see what happens, but he is the real deal,” Trump told reporters after the meeting.

Mattis has an impressive record — one that is enough to make even the most hardened Islamic State terrorist wet himself — and is responsible for some truly impressive American victories in Iraq, CNN reported.

Mattis earned immense praise for how he led the Battle of Falluja in 2004, and is widely loved by the Marines. Mattis also ran U.S. Central Command in 2010, and retired in 2013.

There is a law stating that in order to be secretary of defense a serviceman (or woman) must be retired from the armed forces for at least seven years, Fox News noted, but Congress could easily give Mattis a waiver.

Having Mattis in charge of our military would be one of the smartest things Trump could do. Having a tough-as-nails general who isn’t afraid to do what is necessary to defeat our enemies is just what America needs right now.

Trump has signaled that he wanted to take a different approach to fighting terrorism from what President Barack Obama has been doing over the past eight years, and his consideration of Mattis was a strong signal that he intended to keep that promise.

Right now we couldn’t be happier with how Trump’s administration is shaping up. Let’s hope this trend continues.
