President Donald Trump is slated to meet with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at the White House on Monday to discuss a variety of issues, reportedly including border security.
“They will discuss everything — trade, the border, security and defense,” an anonymous source familiar with the details of the meeting told Reuters.
According to a statement from Trudeau’s office, the prime minister’s primary goal will be to discuss the “unique relationship between Canada and the United States of America and how we can continue to work hard for middle-class Canadians and Americans, together,” as reported by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
In a Twitter posting Thursday, Trudeau himself boasted the need for both leaders to keep alive the “ties (that) help the middle class in both our countries.”
Strong Canada-US ties help the middle class in both our countries. Monday, I’ll meet @realDonaldTrump in DC to keep working for that goal.

Judging by Trump’s preoccupation with national defense, however, it stands to reason that he will be far more interested in discussing border-security issues than economic ones. This is especially true given that, according to new FBI data analyzed by The Daily Beast, the southern border with Mexico is not the only border that ought to concern the U.S. president.
“FBI reports reviewed by The Daily Beast reveal that far more suspected terrorists try to enter the country from the northern border with Canada than from the south,” the website noted in a startling report published Tuesday.
“We are looking the wrong direction,” a senior DHS official said in the report. “Not to say that Mexico isn’t a problem, but the real bad guys aren’t coming from there — at least not yet.”
“We often hear about security concerns on the southern border, but bad actors intent on entering our country will always seek the path of least resistance, so we must have the necessary tools and resources to secure both the northern and southern borders,” Michigan Sen. Gary Peters, a Democrat, told the Daily Beast in a statement.
If President Trump has been made aware of this report, it could spell trouble for Monday’s meeting. As a radical leftist, Trudeau has shown an acceptance of open borders and will likely not appreciate the U.S. president telling him that things have to change, pronto.
