For the past few weeks, President Donald Trump and various high-ranking members of the intelligence community have been sniping at each other over allegations that the intelligence agencies were trying to undermine Trump’s election win by spreading false information about him.
Former CIA chief John Brennan has been particularly vocal in attacking Trump, and after Trump gave a speech on Saturday at CIA headquarters, Brennan once again lashed out at him, calling it a “despicable display,” NBC News reported.
“Former CIA Director Brennan is deeply saddened and angered at Donald Trump’s despicable display of self-aggrandizement in front of CIA’s Memorial Wall of Agency heroes,” stated Nick Shapiro, a Brennan aide.
Shapiro was referring to Trump’s address to members of the CIA in front of the wall dedicated to CIA personnel who have lost their lives serving this country.
Trump was quick to fire back at Brennan, though in a much softer way than he normally does. The turnout at the event, Trump suggested, meant the intelligence agency’s rank and file were behind him, no matter what the situation was with the agency’s leaders under the previous administration.
“Had a great meeting at CIA Headquarters yesterday, packed house, paid great respect to Wall, long standing ovations, amazing people. WIN!,” wrote Trump on Twitter.
CNN noted that Trump spent some of his time railing against the media as well as telling the CIA employees in attendance that he would support them “1,000 percent.”
Trump also raised some eyebrows at the speech when he talked about his appearances on magazine covers and commented on the size of his inauguration crowds, Politico reported.

While Trump may have strayed off topic a little bit during his speech, his visit to the CIA should mean more than what he said during his speech. Trump wanted to show the members of our intelligence community that he supports them.
“And the reason you’re my first stop is that as you know I have a running war with the media,” Trump told the CIA employees, according to Politico. “They are among the most dishonest human beings on earth. Right? And they sort of made it sound like I have this feud with the intelligence community.”
Trump is going to need a good relationship with the intelligence community if he is to fulfill his campaign promise to eradicate the Islamic State terror group.
Hopefully Trump can continue to build a positive relationship with the CIA and other intelligence agencies.
