Trump Calls For People To Pray For Arnolds Failing Ratings On The Apprentice

President Donald Trump had some lighthearted fun at the 65th annual National Prayer Breakfast Thursday that showed how easily he can connect with people through humor.

The president told the crowd that before he ran for president, he had “tremendous success” on his reality show, “The Apprentice.” Since leaving the show to run for president, NBC chose to hire “a big, big movie star, Arnold Schwarzenegger,” as his replacement.

“And we know how that turned out. The ratings went right down the tubes, it’s been a total disaster, and Mark will never, ever bet against Trump again. And I want to just pray for Arnold if we can for those ratings, OK?” Trump said as the crowd laughed.

Take a look:

The show’s ratings have taken a dive. According to Nielsen, 4.9 million live viewers watched Schwarzenegger’s premiere on Jan. 2, compared to Trump’s last season premiere, which attracted 6.8 million viewers, Business Insider reported.

At least one person didn’t think the president’s remarks were funny. Schwarzenegger took issue with them and posted a video to Twitter, asking Trump to switch jobs if he was such an expert at ratings.

It’s obvious the president was joking, but apparently “The Terminator” star was too offended to see the humor in Trump’s comments.

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer told reporters later on Thursday that Trump’s remarks were “light-hearted.”

“If you look at the totality of his remarks, and they were absolutely beautiful, and I think to hone in on that — it was a lighthearted moment he was trying to have with a big supporter of the National Prayer Breakfast and a personal friend,” Spicer he said.

The friend Spicer referenced was Mark Burnett, creator for the show.

Throughout his campaign, Trump was able to connect, and often disarm, his supporters with humor. It’s a gift that not many people are blessed with.
