Trump Announces He’s Working With Carrier To Keep Them Manufacturing In America

What did President Barack Obama do for Thanksgiving? Well, probably a number of things, but his most visible act was the annual turkey-pardoning at the White House.

According to NPR, Obama admitted that he was making “dad jokes” when he “pardoned” a duo of turkeys named Tater and Tot in the Rose Garden on Wednesday.

“When somebody at your table tells you that you’ve been hogging all of the side dishes, you can’t have any more, I hope that you respond with a creed that sums up the spirit of a hungry people: ‘Yes, we cran,’” the president said. “Look, I know there are some bad ones in here, but this is the last time I’m doing this, so we’re not leaving any room for leftovers.”

And what was President-elect Donald Trump doing for his Thanksgiving break? Oh, just trying to save over a thousand jobs in Indiana. No big deal.

And no dad jokes.

According to The Daily Caller, Trump spent his turkey day trying to get air conditioner manufacturer Carrier to keep their jobs in the United States.

“I am working hard, even on Thanksgiving, trying to get Carrier A.C. Company to stay in the U.S. (Indiana),” Trump tweeted. “MAKING PROGRESS — Will know soon!”

Carrier made national news in February when it announced it was sending its Indianapolis plant south of the border, axing 1,400 American jobs in the process. A video that showed the moment the announcement was made went viral and managed to make Carrier the face of outsourcing job loss in the United States.

Trump had addressed the situation during an April rally in Indiana, saying “You’re going to bring it across the border, and we’re going to charge you a 35 percent tax. Now within 24 hours they’re going to call back. ‘Mr. President, we’ve decided to stay. We’re coming back to Indianapolis.’”

“Carrier has had discussions with the incoming administration and we look forward to working together,” Carrier said in a Twitter statement. “Nothing to announce at this time.”

Meanwhile, a further update from the White House: President Obama said that “(w)e should also make sure everyone has something to eat on Thanksgiving. Of course, except the turkeys, because they’re already stuffed.” Further bulletins as events warrant.
