It was revealed earlier this week that former National Security Advisor Susan Rice was the person behind the “unmasking” of Trump campaign officials’ names in intelligence reports, causing quite a bit of uproar in Republican circles, given Rice’s track record of lying to the public.
Arkansas Sen. Tom Cotton had an interesting comparison about Rice when he appeared on the “Hugh Hewitt Show.”
“Hugh, Susan Rice is the Typhoid Mary of the Obama administration foreign policy. Every time something went wrong, she seemed to turn up in the middle of it, whether it was these allegations of improper unmasking and potential improper surveillance, whether it was Benghazi or many of the other fiascos over the eight years of the Obama administration,” Cotton explained.
After initially denying that she had anything to do with the unmasking, Rice went on MSNBC on Tuesday and all but admitted she was behind it, but denied that the unmasking was for any sort of political reason.
Cotton was skeptical:
“I’ve never asked for an unmasked name, and frankly, it’s hard to imagine the circumstances you would in ordinary course of business outside of an exceptional review like we’re conducting now,” Cotton stated. “Unmasking normally occurs by law enforcement or intelligence analysts who need it to conduct an investigation or to understand the raw intelligence.”
While this revelation doesn’t prove Trump’s claims that President Barack Obama wiretapped Trump Tower, it adds to the ever-growing mound of evidence that Obama administration officials were going out of their way to spy on the Trump team.
Rice should testify before the Senate to explain exactly what she did and why she did it. This unmasking revelation is very serious, and it requires an investigation to know exactly why she unmasked Trump officials, and what other suspicious actions were taken by the Obama administration.
