Teenage Girl Spends Last Days in Hospice Little Does She Know Someone Famous Is Walking Down Hall

“She hid it ’round corners and she hid it under beds. She killed it with kisses and from it she fled.”

These words are from the opening verse of the hit song “Dog Days Are Over” by the band Florence + The Machine. They’re a favorite of 15-year-old Karinya Chen.

Karinya was excited to learn that the band would be coming to her hometown of Austin, Texas, in May 2016. Even if she wouldn’t be able to attend the concert.

Karinya was suffering from bone cancer. Her sickness was so advanced that she was staying at Hospice Austin’s Christopher House.

The amazing staff at the hospice contacted the band’s management and all decided that since Karinya couldn’t make it to the concert, well the concert would have to come to her. Which is exactly what lead singer Florence Welch did.

Welch and guitarist Rob Ackroyd, came to visit a visibly happy Karinya. After some introductions, the duo took requests from her.

She asked to hear “Dog Days Are Over” and “Shake It Out.” They weren’t the only two in the moment of the music, Karinya joined in as well.

As “Dog Days” really got going, Welch took a seat on Karinya’s bed who joined in the song. When the duo took on “Shake It Out,” Welch commented on the nice harmonies they had going.

Karinya’s mother later posted to Instagram: “@florence of #Florence&TheMachine is such a beautiful and kind soul!. She brought so much joy to all of us today. What a blessing!”

Unfortunately, it would be one of the last happy memories for Karinya. In October, she passed away.

Before she died, she did an interview with NBC News. She proclaimed “Honestly, I think the biggest thing is to not worry and fear.”

She continued that you ” just have to remember that there’s always tomorrow and if you take it one day at a time and just tell yourself don’t worry and don’t take things for granted and tell yourself that you are loved and you are blessed then it makes it a lot easier to fight.”

It show’s her incredible courage and wisdom in the face of a horrible situation. Those compliment her wonderful spirit and joy, which is on display as she sang “Shake It Out” during her bedside concert:

“I like to keep my issues strong. It’s always darkest before the dawn”
