Speaking on “Fox & Friends” Thursday morning, former GOP presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz expressed his excitement at the prospect of working with President-elect Donald Trump’s upcoming administration.
“I am eager and committed to working with President-lect Trump, to working with the new administration, to get it done to actually deliver what we promised to the voters,” he said.
“Are you talking about (working with Trump) in the capacity as a U.S. senator or as in the capacity as someone in his cabinet or an executive-level job in the administration?” co-host Steve Doocy tried to ask, only to be met with a dodge.
“I’m eager to work with the president in any capacity that I will have the greatest impact defending the principles that I was elected to defend, defending the principles of freedom and defending the Constitution,” Cruz vaguely replied.
The Texas senator refused to budge, no matter how many questions Doocy and his co-hosts threw at him.
According to The Hill, speculation surrounding the senator’s intentions had begun to mount after he met with Trump and Trump’s chief strategist Steve Bannon earlier in the week. Moreover, it was revealed that he “told several confidants (in private) that he wants the (attorney general’s) job.”
Trump wound up picking Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions to be his attorney general Friday, so that position is no longer available for Cruz.
Much more relevant was the fact that despite the heated rivalry that broke out between him and the president-elect during the primary battle, Cruz nevertheless intended to stick by Trump’s side and offer him everything he needed to “Make America Great Again.”
You, Sen. Cruz, are a true patriot indeed.
