Just after midnight Monday, a federal judge appointed by President Barack Obama ordered Michigan election officials to begin a massive hand recount of 4.8 million presidential election ballots
“(The recount) shall commence and must continue until further order of this court,” U.S. District Judge Mark Goldsmith ruled in the Eastern District of Michigan, according to The Detroit News.
“Defendants shall instruct all governmental units participating in the recount to assemble necessary staff to work sufficient hours to assure that the recount is completed in time to comply with the ‘safe harbor’ provision of federal election law,” he added.
In other words, election officials were to complete the recount before the Electoral College meets to finalize the presidential election results on Dec. 19.
The recount had originally been scheduled to begin Wednesday, but failed Green Party presidential nominee Jill Stein’s attorney successfully argued that delaying it any further would violate her rights to due process and equal protection.
She and her partner in crime, failed Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, who had joined in efforts to push for recounts in several key states, had seemingly won in their efforts to question the integrity of the election system.
However, the likelihood of either of them somehow commandeering the presidency from President-elect Donald Trump was non-existent. Take for instance what has been happening in Wisconsin, where the first day of its own recount last week netted Stein an additional 17 votes and Clinton just one single vote.
Yet according to a Forbes commentary writer, the cost of of Stein and Clinton’s joint recount efforts in that state alone could have saved at least 5,000 children’s lives had the duo invested their money in malaria prevention efforts instead.
But because of judges like Mark Goldsmith, among others, money is being allowed to be wasted left and right for no other purpose than to soothe the egos of these two sore losers.
