One of the most absurd ideas to emerge after Democrats suffered a humiliating loss in the presidential election was to boycott everything associated with President Donald Trump and his family, including retailers selling any merchandise associated with the Trump name.
Sometimes these kinds of boycotts work, but most of the time they don’t.
Case in point: Members of a National Organization for Women chapter in Virginia recently called for a boycott of Trump Winery products at Wegmans stores, but the effort backfired badly. Five varieties have reportedly sold out at two Richmond-area Wegmans stores. The Richmond Times-Dispatch reported that the Midlothian and Short Pump stores had sold out all five of the Trump wines they carried.
The grocery retailer’s eight other stores in Virginia have also either sold out some or all of the Trump Winery varieties, Wegmans media relations vice president Jo Natale said.
She said the supplies would be replenished when more of the products became available.
“Our role as a retailer is to offer choice to our customers,” Natale said.
“For various reasons, we are sometimes asked to stop selling a product. Our response is always the same, no matter the product: How a product performs is our single measure for what stays on our shelves and what goes,” she said.
Good for them for not backing down. Many people on social media showed support for the company.
I support @Wegmans for keeping Trump Wine on the shelves, because banning products is stupid and it doesn’t work. Don’t give IN!

Fox News reported that it could take three to four weeks for more of the wine to be available.
These kinds of boycotts are nothing new. From Nordstrom to Uber, Under Armour to Burlington, liberals have worked diligently to put pressure on businesses to separate themselves from Trump. Most of the time, however, it doesn’t work out quite the way they planned.
It’s fun to watch liberal ideas backfire. It’s especially satisfying to see these kinds of movements fail when liberals try to destroy businesses simply because they sell Trump merchandise.
