But covering up Donald Trump? What’s that all about?
That’s what happened at a Publix grocery store in Lee County, Florida.
A keen-eyed shopper noticed that a picture of Donald Trump on the cover of a National Enquirer was covered with one of those little plastic dividers.
Is Trump’s mere image now just as offensive as half-naked women?
Walter Indyk said he was shocked when he lifted up the white screen.
“I lift it up and there was a picture of Donald Trump, the President-elect. I was like ‘Wow, really? I mean, what’s next?’” he told Fox4Now.
“I was flabbergasted. I was amazed. I couldn’t believe it,” Indyk said. “I was like ‘This guy’s going to be the President. They have the nerve to cover his picture up at the check out aisle?’”
“I don’t understand what is trying to be protected here,” Rachael McDonnell of Cape Coral said. “Whether everybody likes it or not, Trump is the President-elect.”
Indyk said he called the manager over who said they had received a lot of complaints about having the magazine there and that it was a “corporate-wide” decision.
The station reached out to the corporate office, who released this statement:
“The National Enquirer receives the most customer complaints about front page content, so they were added to the list of magazines required to be covered, just last week.”
Indyk wasn’t buying it.
“Really? I don’t have any faith in that at all. I bet you once they have a National Enquirer that doesn’t have a picture of the future president on it, they’ll take those covers off,” Indyk said.
I’m not buying the whole premise. The National Enquirer peddles in fake news, not pictures of half-naked women. Take a look at some of the recent covers for the magazine. Does anyone see anything offensive?
And it shouldn’t go unnoticed. You can let them know how you feel about their “erasing” of the President Elect on their Twitter Page.
