In an appearance on “Fox & Friends” this weekend, Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke made a bold stand for Donald Trump’s executive order temporarily banning immigration from seven countries with ties to terrorism, saying that the president “understands that his first obligation is to defend and protect American citizens.”
The Wisconsin lawman also went after the media for its reporting on Trump’s plan, which bans visitors or immigrants from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen for 90 days, according to CNN.
“The New York Times, the Washington Post, CNN, MSNBC, they have become the propaganda wing of the Democratic Party. They have abandoned their responsibility under the Constitution, their First Amendment protection,” Clarke told Fox News.
“We don’t want (the First Amendment) to be used against people whose political views they don’t agree with or they oppose. They’re supposed to be a watchdog but instead what they’ve become is an echo chamber for leftist ideology.”
Clarke also blasted the deception behind much of the sympathetic coverage for refugees. Helpless people aren’t the targets of Trump’s ban, he said.
“I’m tired of all the crocodile tears about the kids, the poor kids coming. We’re not talking about that,” Clarke said. “We’re talking about able-bodied, grown men, fighting age, that should be back in Syria, back in the Middle East, fighting for their country, coming over to the United States to spread jihad.”
“I’m tired of one-percenters like Mark Zuckerberg and others lecturing us about who we are,” Clarke said.
“Mark Zuckerberg has no idea of who’s coming into this country and what it takes to vet those individuals. I am a law enforcement officer in my 39th year. We do a lot of vetting of people,” he added.
It’s a pretty bold statement from Clarke, and yet another reminder of just why conservatives love him.
