First there was the space race, then there was the missile gap. Now, we have the troll race — and alarmingly, Russia has taken the early lead.
According to The Washington Post, the Russian Foreign Ministry went after the Democrats on April Fool’s Day with a message on their automated voice mail for their embassies — or, at least, that’s what they posted on social media this weekend.
“You have reached the Russian Embassy. Your call is very important to us. To arrange a call from a Russian diplomat to your political opponent, press 1,” the message states. “To use the services of Russian hackers, press 2. To request election interference, press 3 and wait until the next election campaign.”
The English portion begins at about :27 seconds into the recording:

Just in case you even needed to ask (looking at you, Chelsea Clinton), a Russian official confirmed that the message was an April Fool’s joke, according to CBS News.
While they are willing to joke around about it, the Russians still have been vehemently denying that they interfered in the election in any way.
“All those things are fictional, illusory and provocations, lies,” Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday at a forum in Russia, according to The Daily Caller. “All these are used for domestic American political agendas. The anti-Russian card is played by different political forces inside the United States to trade on that and consolidate their positions inside.”
However, it is nice to see them having a sense of humor about it. Pity the Democrats don’t have one.
Of course, under Democrat leadership, we’ve been lagging way behind in the troll race with the Russians. Yes, of course the Democrats have some funny people — Jon Stewart, Bill Maher and Al Sharpton, just to name a few. (There is, however, always the disturbing possibility that Sharpton is being serious.)
After this latest incident, it’s clear that this isn’t enough to close the troll gap with Russia. I call on President Donald Trump to put a troll on the moon by the time that this decade is out.
May I suggest Chuck Schumer?
