President Barack Obama, along with just about every other Democrat in America, has suggested more than once that Russia somehow meddled with the U.S. election.
These ideas include the unproven theory, backed by circumstantial evidence (but plenty of it, granted) that Russia was somehow being the hacking of thousands of emails from the Democrat National Committee and John Podesta, Hillary Clinton’s campaign chairman.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has apparently had it with the accusations and on Friday basically told Obama to prove it or shut up about it.
Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for Putin, said for the U.S. to accuse Russia of any kind of meddling with the election was “indecent,” the Russian state news agency Tass reported.
“They should either stop talking about that or produce some proof at last. Otherwise it all begins to look unseemly,” Peskov said, according to CNN.
On Friday morning in an interview with NPR, Obama said that when any foreign government tries to impact the integrity of our elections, we should take action — action that would occur “at a time and place of our own choosing.”
On Thursday, an unidentified U.S. official said to be familiar with the situation told CNN that the hack was carried out with sophisticated tools, and while Putin’s “fingerprints” weren’t on it, “the nature of the operation was such that this had to be approved by top levels of the Russian government.”
Yet the Department of Justice said there was no clear indication that Russia was involved with the hack, and some insiders were even claiming that Democrats were responsible for leaking the emails to Wikileaks, which has publicly stated it did not receive them from Russia.
It seems as Obama was ready to take this to the next level without any credible proof of Russia’s intent, and that could lead to further strained relations.
Democrats are proving, yet again, how difficult it is for them to accept any blame for losing the election.
