President Donald Trump hadn’t even been the president-elect for 24 hours in 2016 when Democrats (and the liberal media) were already scrambling to figure out who would run against him in 2020.
Some names have been unexpected, but one possibility that’s never been off the radar screen is that of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton trying for a rematch with Trump. It seems like every other week there is a new rumor about whether she will run or not.
The week’s rumor is that it is at least possible, The Daily Caller reported.
Robby Mook, Clinton’s former campaign manager, didn’t rule out Clinton running for office in 2020, though he didn’t confirm it either, in an interview with MSNBC’s Greta Van Sustern’s new show “For The Record With Greta.”
“I’m going to let her answer for that,” Mook stated. “I think what happens right now, we’ve got to get to the bottom of what happened in 2016, then we can start worrying about the next cycle. But we’ve got to make sure that this cannot happen again in two years or four years to anybody else.”
Clinton really just can’t let go of her dream of being the first female president, despite having lost twice already. Even most Democrats agree that there should be some new blood in the 2020 race — the Democrats can’t keep relying on the same old people. (Literally. Clinton would be 73 on Election Day, 2020.)
Unfortunately for the party, the Democrats really don’t have many bright up-and-comers who could take the mantle of the Democrat Party the same way that Clinton did. And if Clinton couldn’t beat Trump in 2016 when he had no political experience, she certainly won’t beat him in 2020 when he has a record of job growth (and whatever else he accomplishes) to run on.
Undoubtedly, Clinton is keeping an eye on the FBI investigation into the Trump campaign’s alleged contacts with Russians. The outcome of that investigation will undoubtedly influence her decision to run.
Whoever the Democrats put forward, we have little doubt that Trump will be up to the challenge of defending his record and winning a second term.
