Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg hasn’t exactly been Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s biggest fan, and has publicly denounced him regarding certain political issues.
However, much to the disappointment of the liberal media, the social media guru recently put aside his political differences with the GOP nominee and made a massive move to help Trump.
Facebook employees had reportedly pushed to censor posts from Donald Trump, but Zuckerberg intervened, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The employees argued that Trump’s post on the social media site regarding his proposal to temporarily halt Muslim immigration due to radical Islamist terrorist attacks was “hate speech” and should be taken down.
In a move that stunned conservatives who heard Zuckerberg’s prior criticism of Trump and liberals who thought Zuckerberg was in their corner, the Facebook CEO personally decided that it would be “inappropriate to censor the candidate.”
“When we review reports of content that may violate our policies, we take context into consideration,” a Facebook spokesperson told Business Insider. “That context can include the value of political discourse. Many people are voicing opinions about this particular content and it has become an important part of the conversation around who the next U.S. president will be. For those reasons, we are carefully reviewing each report and surrounding context relating to this content on a case-by-case basis.”
Although conservatives have legitimate disagreements with Zuckerberg’s political philosophy, we must give credit where it is due for him standing up for what’s right.
In fact, this wasn’t the first time Zuckerberg stood up for diversity of political ideas.
In a memo written by the CEO to his employees, Zuckerberg addressed concerns about Facebook board member Peter Thiel’s support of the GOP candidate.
“We care deeply about diversity,” Zuckerberg wrote. “That’s easy to say when it means standing up for ideas you agree with. It’s a lot harder when it means standing up for the rights of people with different viewpoints to say what they care about. That’s even more important.”
This is what is so great about America, folks. We may disagree with someone’s political stance or policy viewpoints, but we still support their right to believe in and voice those opinions.
