When Melania Trump started her husband’s campaign-style mega-rally in Florida over the weekend, she began by reciting the Lord’s Prayer.
Almost immediately, liberals lost their minds.
To Christians, however, her choice of the prayer — first uttered by Jesus Christ as an example for his followers — was a brave stand for her faith. And as the left began attacking Melania, many stood up for the first lady — including Rev. Franklin Graham.
In a Facebook post that’s been liked over 10,000 times an hour since the evangelical icon posted it Tuesday, Graham defended Melania’s choice to open the event with the Lord’s Prayer.
“Sean Hannity said last night that First Lady Melania Trump’s reciting the Lord’s Prayer was touching and beautiful — millions of people agree with him!” Graham wrote.
“This is a prayer that the Lord Jesus Christ Himself gave us, and people around the world have been blessed as it has been viewed and replayed in the media. I’m thankful we have (a) first lady who isn’t afraid to publicly let her faith be known, and I hope she won’t be discouraged by the vicious attacks from the left on her and her family. Our nation often needs to be reminded of the power of God, ‘For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.’”
Graham also included a video from a “Hannity” segment in which the eponymous host discussed the backlash with Graham and Jerry Falwell Jr.

According to Fox News, some of the messages on social media directed at Melania were vicious.
“Melania starts the dictatorship rally with the Lord’s Prayer? NOT EVERY AMERICAN IS CHRISTIAN!!!! Country over party,” one person wrote.
“At least this time Melania plagerized (sic) the Lord’s Prayer from the Bible instead of Michelle Obama,” another tweeter said.
However, given the success of Graham’s post, it’s clear there are a lot more supporters of Melania Trump than there are detractors of both the first lady and her stand for her faith. And that’s a very, very good thing.
