Rev. Graham Calls on Americans to Support Trump After Meryl Streep Takes Cheap Shots at Golden Globes

Christian evangelist Rev. Franklin Graham is speaking out after actress Meryl Streep attacked President-elect Donald Trump during her Golden Globes acceptance speech.

In a Facebook post, Graham pointed out that although the country is divided over a Trump presidency, it’s time Americans decide to work together for a greater good instead of tearing each other apart on the basis of political preference.

“The news this morning on the Golden Globes isn’t about which films won or lost, but about Meryl Streep’s 6-minute speech condemning Donald J. Trump,” Graham said in his post.

“Sean Hannity tweeted about her remarks, ‘This is exactly why Hwood is DYING, what a bunch of hypocrites. Sex, violence, and drivel rule hwood. Turning the channel.’ I say, let’s get behind our new president-elect and Vice President-elect Mike Pence and move forward together as a country.”

“They’ve already made a lot of progress before even officially taking office, and let’s pray they continue to make positive changes for the future of America,” Graham concluded.

Indeed, Streep’s speech made national headlines almost as soon as she finished the last sentence.

CNN reported that during the speech, Streep criticized Trump for his alleged mocking of a disabled reporter, but Trump has denied he ever did so, and video backs him up. Moreover, she made an appeal to the media to “hold power to account, to call him on the carpet for every outrage.”

Trump responded to the attack, saying he was “not surprised” by the speech.

In an interview with The New York Times, Trump said the speech was just another attack by “liberal movie people.”

While many anti-Trump activists applauded Streep for speaking out, perhaps it is time for the nation to listen to Graham’s words. Instead of spreading hate, it is time that the United States becomes a model of working together for the greater good.
