Researchers believe they have found a scientific explanation behind the biblical account of the sun standing still for Joshua and the Israelites during one of their most heroic battles.
Breaking News Israel reported that Dr. Hezi Yitzchak, Dr. Daniel Weistaub, and Dr. Uzi Avneer, of Ben Gurion University in Israel’s Negev, released data last week in the Hebrew journal Beit Mikra, which suggested that sun “standing still” when Joshua fought five armies was actually a solar eclipse.
The researchers used NASA data to help reach their conclusions, and posited that the the eclipse took place in 1207 B.C. Moreover, knowing what we now about eclipses, the team was able to date the battle precisely to 4:28 p.m. on Oct. 30, 1207 B.C., the Times of Israel reported.
The team also believed they could pinpoint where the battle took place, which was a 20-mile trek that the Israelites made to Gibeon, north of Jerusalem, from their encampment near Jericho.
In the biblical story, the Israelites went to war against five armies in order to help the Gibeonites, with whom they had an alliance. During the battle, Joshua prayed for the sun to stand still long enough for him to secure a victory.
The Bible states that God answered his prayer — the “sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the nation avenged itself on its enemies.”
For those who might take issue with this explanation, stating that it contradicts Scripture, the researchers had a fair explanation. They reportedly interpreted the Hebrew word “dom” to mean “become dark” instead the traditional meaning “stand still,” according to Science World Report.
What an incredible story. This proves that the Bible, among other things, can be an accurate source for history.
Atheists want the world to believe that Bible is just a collections of myths, but time and time again, science is proving it is far more.
