Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who had reportedly been in the running to serve as President-elect Donald Trump’s secretary of state, revealed during a CNN interview Tuesday that he had turned down two “Cabinet-level” positions offered to him.
“I mean, it was my own decision not to do it, largely because of my personal life,” the no-nonsense mayor told “New Day” host Chris Cuomo, adding that Trump’s loyalty to him was not even slightly in question. “As far as I’m concerned, he fulfilled whatever loyalty that entails.”
The truth according to Giuliani was that he had voluntarily taken himself out of the running, just as he had later voluntarily rejected the two additional positions that Trump offered him. And the reason for these decisions had much to do with the responsibilities that Giuliani, who runs his own consulting business, already had on his plate.
“I have an awful lot to do,” he said. “It would have been a big sacrifice to do it. So I had to make a choice early on in the game. I didn’t want to be in the big sort of selection panel.”

Some critics found fault with this argument, citing the fact that the former New York City mayor waited to drop out of the running until after rumors began to circulate that Trump had chosen Exxon Mobil CEO Rex Tillerson as his secretary of state, The Hill reported.
Either way, it was clear that Giuliani had done his part to help Trump win the 2016 presidential election, and now that the election was over, he was ready to move on with his own life.
As for Trump’s choice of Tillerson, however, the mayor had nothing but praise.
“He’ll do a good job,” he predicted.
Probably true — but you would have as well, Mr. Mayor.
