Even as Hillary Clinton and her supporters lick their wounds following Tuesday’s upset presidential-election loss, reports indicate voters might soon see another member of the politically influential family run for public office.
According to the New York Post’s unnamed source, the former secretary of state’s daughter, Chelsea Clinton, is getting prepared for a possible congressional bid.
Specifically, the report indicates the former first daughter has her eye on New York’s 17th Congressional District, which is currently represented by Democratic U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey.
“There has been a lot of speculation within New York Democratic circles about Lowey’s retirement and Chelsea running for the seat,” the source told the Post, going on to explain why the district makes sense for such a campaign.
The district covers the town of Chappaqua, where the Clintons already own a residence.
Chelsea Clinton and her family have reportedly secured a Chappaqua home next door to her parent’s compound, which would allow her to claim residence in throwing her hat in the ring upon Lowey’s retirement.
“There is a belief that Chappaqua is a logical place for Chelsea to run,” the source said, “because it would be straightforward for her to raise money and build a powerful base.”
Clinton critics and supporters alike shared the speculative news on social media along with the common message — for better or worse — that Election Day did not mark the end of this dynastic clan.
Oh dear lord. The Clintons are like the Energizer bunny . . . they never stop.

Several others expanded their disdain beyond the Clintons, calling for an end to families in politics altogether.
Even those who did not directly malign the idea of another Clinton in politics generally complained that the news was too much in the wake of this week’s weighty election.
“Can’t even have a couple days of Clinton-free news,” one Twitter user wrote.
Twitter critics also dismissed her chances even in left-leaning New York, citing perceived weaknesses including insufficient charisma and possible ties to shady deals by her family’s charitable foundation.
While the idea of Chelsea Clinton serving in the House of Representatives earned little support on Twitter, the Post’s source offered a defense.
“In the past few years, she has taken a very visible role in the Clinton Foundation and on the campaign trail,” the source said. “While politics isn’t the life Hillary wanted for Chelsea, she chose to go on the campaign trail for her mother and has turned out to be very poised, articulate and comfortable with the visibility.”
Neither representatives for the Clintons nor Lowey have confirmed Chelsea Clinton’s plans, if any, to seek the congressional seat.
