Tremaine Neverson, 32, is better known by his stage name Trey Songz. However, the former name is what he was called when he appeared in Detroit’s 36th District Court on Thursday on charges of felony assault.
According to court documents, Songz was “irate” and “upset and belligerent” when he was told to cut his show at Detroit’s Joe Louis Arena at 11:30 Wednesday night.
The Washington Times said that after he was told his set was over, the Virginia-born rapper “became irate and started throwing objects (from) the stage; speakers, microphones, anything he could get his hands on.”
After a police officer stepped in to arrest him, the rapper hit him with his fist, causing a concussion.
“Initially arrested on suspicion of resisting and obstructing officers and malicious destruction of property, Neverson was charged by the prosecutor with the more-serious felony of assault on a police officer, as well as aggravated assault,” the Free Press reported. “Assault on a police officer causing injury is punishable by up to four years in prison and a fine up to $5,000, and the misdemeanor charge of aggravated assault is punishable by up to a year in jail and a fine up to $1,000, according to the prosecutor’s office.”
According to RapRadar, the rapper visited President Barack Obama at the White House in 2010.
“My favorite Obama moment, and actually one of my favorite moments ever, was when he invited me to join him and his family in the Oval Office and told me he was proud of me,” Songz would later write on a piece on hip-hop site GlobalGrind.
“Since then, I have actually recalled that moment for inspiration during hard times.”
He’s certainly about to face a lot of those. And I don’t think he’s going to get another Oval Office invitation. Just call it a hunch.
