While the mainstream media was busy trying to stir up tension over a mosque fire that occurred last weekend, the community was hard at work doing something that actually made a difference.
They rallied around the mosque congregation and helped raise over $1 million toward reconstruction of the building in Victoria, Texas.
Local churches and synagogues have also offered the Victoria Islamic Center an opportunity to use their facilities to worship while the mosque is rebuilt, ABC News reported.
Omar Rachid, a member of the mosque, said Thursday that the offers provided “comfort at a time of great loss.” He added that the congregation has decided to use a commercial building that provides the space and amenities that would accommodate prayer services.
Imam Shahid Hashmi said in an interview on Fox News’ “Happening Now” that the mosque opened in 2000.
“This community is wonderful. They all came together. Every creed, every faith, every race,” he said.
Thanks to the financial contributions, Hashmi expected the mosque could be rebuilt in less than a year, CNN reported.
The mosque members posted their gratitude to their Facebook page, thanking everyone for their support.
Firefighters responded to the blaze in the early morning hours on Saturday. When they arrived, the mosque was completely consumed by flames, Victoria Fire Department Chief Jeff Cowan said.
The Victoria Fire Marshal’s Office requested help with the investigation from the state Fire Marshal’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
No cause of the fire had been immediately determined.
The outpouring of support from the community demonstrated how the left is overblowing the country’s “racist,” anti-Muslim sentiment under President Donald Trump — especially since his temporary ban on immigrants from seven predominantly Muslim countries was announced. From the looks of things, Americans of all faiths are eager to help this mosque’s membership move forward and rebuild.
