While Russian President Vladimir Putin showed little respect for President Barack Obama’s administration, it seems that the tide is changing for President-elect Donald Trump. Putin is ready to meet Donald Trump … and on Trump’s terms.
In fact, according to The Associated Press, a Donald Trump – Vladimir Putin meeting could be imminent.
In an interview transcript released by the Kremlin on Tuesday, Putin was asked by journalists about the possibility of arranging a meeting with Trump and he responded: “We are ready at any moment. There are no problems from our side.”
“(I)t’s widely known that the elected president of the United States has publicly called for the normalization of the Russian-American relationship,” Putin added. “We cannot but support this.”
However, the Russian president added, “(W)e understand it will not be a simple task considering the extent of degradation of the Russian-American relationship. But we are prepared to do our bit.”
Putin seemed to snub the President Obama in speaking of the current quality of the relationship between Russia and the U.S., but he appeared more than willing to work toward rebuilding that relationship — or at least willing to look as if that’s what he wanted — with someone he respected more.
Although Putin stated that a meeting could happened at any time, at least as far as he was concerned, he also admitted that it was likely that that meeting would not take place until after Trump’s inauguration in January.
