President-elect Donald Trump has released the names of several people he intends to nominate to various cabinet-level positions, but so far he has been relatively quiet about who the finalists for secretary of state might be.
“You know, I’m not sure. Soon,” Priebus explained on John Catsimatidis’ “Cats Roundtable” radio show. “Perhaps next week or the week after. We’re moving so fast that I don’t think anybody’s concerned as to the pace that we’re moving.”
While most media folks had settled on four names as potential secretary of state picks, Politico reported on Sunday that Trump would be meeting with even more people this week to interview them for the job.
Retired Navy Adm. James G. Stavridis and ExxonMobil CEO Rex Tillerson are meeting with Trump this week, expanding the field from former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Tennessee Sen. Bob Corker, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former CIA Director David Petraeus.
The Trump team’s remarks about who is being interviewed for secretary of state are almost identical to those made while Trump was searching for his vice president.
“More than four. Who knows how many finalists there will be?” she told reporters.
During the hunt for a vice president, Trump famously would just say yes to whomever he was asked about by the media, ensuring that reporters really didn’t have much of an idea whom he was looking at — which allowed him to continue the search without many distractions.
We’re confident that Trump will pick the person who is best suited for the job. So far his cabinet is shaping up to be amazing, and there is no reason to think that will stop now.
