While congressional Democrats have continued to oppose President Donald Trump’s cabinet appointments and policy initiatives, regular citizens have grown tired of the political discord in Washington.
In fact, a recent Rasmussen Reports poll found that 63 percent of all likely voters said it was better for the country if Democrats try to work with the president, while only 29 percent thought it was better for the country if Democrats “oppose the president in every way possible.”
When narrowed to just Democrat voters, 44 percent thought it was better for the party and the country if Democrats keep opposing the president. However, more — 46 percent — thought it was better for the country if Democrats tried to cooperate with Trump and 45 percent said it was better for their party to work with the White House.
That seems like it should be a pretty clear message.
“Most voters agree that it’s bad for America and bad for the Democratic Party if Democrats continue to flat out oppose everything President Trump does,” the Rasmussen news release explained in its introduction to the results. “Even Democrats are conflicted about their party’s scorched earth policy.”
In fact, the number of Democrat voters who believed their party should cooperate with the president has been on the rise.
A similar poll conducted shortly after the November election found that 32 percent of Democrats favored cooperation, according to The Washington Times.
These poll numbers were particularly important as congressional Democrats have tried to block Trump’s agenda, despite the fact that a majority of all voters — including half of Democrat voters — said in January that Democrats were unlikely to be successful against the president.
So, here’s a question for the Democrat leaders in Washington:
If your own voters don’t want you to flat out oppose Trump and even you do, they don’t think you’ll be successful … why exactly are you working night and day to block all of his policies and appointees?
