Liberals: They’re angry. They’re angry with President-elect Donald Trump. They’re angry with Trump’s proposed cabinet. They’re angry with conservatives.
Just don’t ask them too many details about what they’re angry about.
One independent journalist found this out the hard way when he went to a protest against Trump’s proposed labor secretary, Andy Puzder.
Puzder, you may have heard, is the CEO of CKE Restaurants, which is the parent company of Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s. Because of the fact that many of his employees are minimum wage, the “Fight for $15” campaign has targeted his nomination with protest, Independent Journal Review reported.
If you are protesting the nomination of Andy Puzder, I don’t expect you to know every one of those details (although it would certainly help for you to know a little of his background before spewing invective against him).
However, what I do expect you to know is who he is. And I don’t mean that in an existential “who am I really, man? Like, whoa,” sort of way.
What I mean is, you should be able to identify the name of the man you’re protesting when it’s given to you by a reporter.
That, unfortunately, was too high of a bar for these picketers in Boston to clear:
“Do you guys know who Andy Puzder is?” the man taking the video asked. Almost all of the protesters said they didn’t.
One protester said she knew, but that she “can point you to someone who really knows,” which is not the most confidence-inspiring statement if you’re a community organizer.
The New York Times reported that Puzder’s nomination was being attacked by liberals because it’s “a proxy for a larger struggle between labor and industry groups to shape public opinion on issues crucial to both.”
Well, my opinion is shaped, and it’s basically that these individuals should not be shaping public policy. Trump 1, “Fight for $15” organizers 0.
