President Barack Obama offered a “reminder” to troops during a speech at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Florida, Tuesday that served as a divisive and offensively ignorant set of digs at President-elect Donald Trump.
Before the speech, White House press secretary Josh Earnest claimed that “This is a speech that President Obama was prepared to give before the election.”
But his actual remarks showed otherwise, CNS News reported.
Obama claimed that he wanted to “talk about the foundation that we will leave for the next administration.” If that was his actual goal, the next statements he made are all the more egregious.
During his remarks, Obama told the troops “that each of us has … the universal right to speak your minds and to protest against authority; to live in a society that’s open and free; that can criticize our president without retribution.”
He added that the troops need “to carry forward what is best in us, that commitment to a common creed, the confidence that right makes might, not the other way around.”
Obama told the troops that “violent extremism will be with us for years to come,” while touting the “progress” he has made — an odd comment to make as a congressional report just came out asserting that the threat of Islamist terror is the highest it has been since Sept. 11, 2001, according to Fox News.
Despite the fact that his policies have been a failure, the outgoing president decided to give some smug advice for the future:
“So rather than offer false promises that we can eliminate terrorism by dropping more bombs or deploying more and more troops or fencing ourselves off from the rest of the world, we have to take a long view of the terrorist threat. And we have to pursue a smart strategy that can be sustained.”
The president who thought it was a good idea to give over a billion dollars to the world’s foremost state sponsor of terror in Iran also sent a not-so-subtle dig Trump’s way:
“Terrorists would love to see us walk away from the type of work that builds international coalitions and ends conflicts and stops the spread of deadly weapons. It would make life easier for them; it would be a tragic mistake for us.”
Obama went on to show the political correctness that explains, in part, why millions of Americans repudiated him and the Democrats on Nov. 8: “If we act like this is a war between the United States and Islam, we’re not just going to lose more Americans to terrorist attacks, but we’ll also lose sight of the very principles we claim to defend.”
If he doesn’t want people to make it a war against Islam, he and his compatriots on the left should label the threat what it is — radical Islam — and stop dancing around it.
In a speech that was supposed to set the stage for the next president, Obama said, “We’re a nation that believes freedom can never be taken for granted. And that each of us has a responsibility to sustain it; the universal right to speak your minds and to protest against authority; to live in a society that’s open and free; that can criticize our president without retribution.”
So much for the left’s claim that they are “tolerant” and their cries that we need to bring the country together and stop with the divisiveness. Obama actively encouraged people not to give Trump a chance and continued the divisive, ignorant rhetoric about his policies.
Obama really is a piece of work. He and his leftist ilk are absolutely clueless about what this country stands for and what we need to do to fight radical Islamic terrorism. Thankfully he’s almost out of office and we have an incoming president who appears to understand both of those things.
