NRA: Attorney General Sessions Will Boot the Gun Control Lobby Out of the DOJ

The executive director for the National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action said last week that Sen. Jeff Sessions as attorney general would put an end to the Department of Justice’s gun control efforts that have expanded under Attorney Generals Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch.

Chris Cox, the NRA’s principal political strategist, wrote in a column for USA Today on Thursday calling for support of Sessions, saying he would fight for the Second Amendment and law-abiding gun owners.

“Unlike his predecessors, Sessions knows that law-abiding gun owners are not the problem. He strongly supports our Second Amendment freedoms and will work tirelessly to protect them,” Cox said.

He added that this will be a “marked contrast” to those in the Obama administration, such as Holder and Lynch, who have “constantly attacked” gun owners in the past.

As head of the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Sessions could also free the Department of Justice from the grip of the gun control lobby, Cox pointed out. The gun control lobby that “tried to turn the 2016 election into a referendum on the Second Amendment,” he added. This is crucial because the gun control lobby in Washington has worked tirelessly to chip away at the Second Amendment.

Cox explained that Sessions understands the need to enforce existing laws, rather than create new regulations that stifle law-abiding gun owners.

“Now, due in no small part to the efforts of the National Rifle Association and our members, law-abiding gun owners can look forward to a president who respects our rights. In that regard, we should all be happy about President-elect Donald Trump’s nomination of Sen. Jeff Sessions to be the next attorney general,” Cox said.

Cox has expressed his support for Sessions in the past, criticizing the Obama administration for its lack of answers regarding gun violence.

Cox’s column will no doubt leave liberals fuming, as they come to the realization that Sessions will be a formidable foe when it comes to gun rights.
