Not Just SCOTUS Trump to Appoint HALF of Federal Judiciary

Of all the questions facing the first days of the Trump administration, some of the loudest political buzz surrounds the incoming president’s choice to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court.

However, what many people don’t seem to realize is the major impact that President Donald Trump will have on lower federal judge seats due to the high number of vacancies he will inherit taking over for President Barack Obama.

According to Ballotpedia, Trump will have 108 vacant federal judge posts to fill when he takes the oath of office — the most since former President Bill Clinton started his first term. This means that Trump will have the ability to shape the court system in an incredible way.

Throughout his presidency, Trump also could have the potential to shape over half the 870-member federal judiciary, given that there could be as many as 438 vacancies by the end of 2020, Ballotpedia reported.

As The Washington Post noted, after Republicans gained control of the Senate, Obama’s appointments for judge seats “slowed to a crawl,” providing this opening for Trump.

While Trump has a large number of vacancies, it is unclear if he will be able to push through as many judges as he wants to because Senate Democrats could use some stall tactics to stop him, Townhall noted.

Having conservative federal judges is key to the future of the conservative movement. While the Supreme Court rules on issues at the top of the legal pyramid, the decisions of lower federal judges directly affect the lives of millions of Americans. The lower courts are also the pipeline for future Supreme Court justices, so appointments Trump makes in the next several years could be affecting generations to come.

Trump has a “yuge” opportunity here to leave a lasting impact on America — not only through the Supreme Court. Hopefully, he will appoint judges who will follow the Constitution and not bend to the political winds over time.

After reading this, aren’t you glad that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton didn’t win?

Imagine the damage she could have done by appointing almost half the federal judges in America.
