A noodle shop owner in China was beheaded over the weekend by a customer because he allegedly charged the customer about 60 cents more than what the meal cost.
The incident happened on Saturday in Wuhan, in the central China province of Hubei, according to the South China Morning Post. It reportedly was committed by a 22-year-old man suffering from “mental impairment.”
According to the newspaper, the suspect, identified only by his surname Hu, ordered three bowls of noodles but got into a heated argument with the store owner when he felt he had been overcharged one yuan (20 cents) per bowl. The argument led to the suspect allegedly using a kitchen knife to behead the store owner and subsequently throw the store owner’s head into a garbage bin.
According to the South China Morning Post, Hu was recently in a mental institution and suffered from the second-highest level of mental impairment, but a specific diagnosis was not identified.
He was released from the institution after doctors claimed that his condition had improved.
I think it’s safe to say that more treatment was definitely needed in this man’s case, considering the level of brutality a decapitation involves.
The identity of the store owner was being kept from the media to protect his family as they deal with this terrible ordeal. According to the South China Morning Post, a friend of the victim said the 42-year-old business owner had been living with his 13-year-old son since he divorced five years ago. The friend stated that the man was honest and did not cheat his customers.
Police have the suspect in custody and he is expected to be punished for committing this sick act.
This is a sad time when someone could lose their life over such a small disagreement.
