Mom Thanks Local Cops in Letter for Arresting Daughter on Drinking Charge

A teenager was arrested in Walton County, Florida, after she was caught with an open container of alcohol on the beach and was underage, the U.K. Daily Mail reported, but her mother, rather than get upset at the police, sent the police a thank-you note that the Walton County sheriff later posted to his Facebook page.

“The reason that I am sending this is that every officer that I talked to or that I could hear in the background talking to her was so nice! Firm, but nice. I’m sure each one was rolling their eyes when my daughter said, ‘Can you talk to my mom?’, but each and every officer was respectful and assured me she would get back to her house safely,” she wrote.

It’s nice to see someone appreciating what police officers do every day. It would have been easy for this mother to rant and rave at the police for arresting her daughter, but she understood they were doing their job and she was grateful for that.

“For a mom hundreds of miles away, that was very reassuring. I know you all have to deal with this on a daily basis, which must be completely annoying and I’m very sorry my daughter added to your workload yesterday,” she wrote.

If you break the law, you should expect to be arrested — but if you’re cooperative, as this young woman apparently was, you should also expect to be treated with respect by the arresting officers, as also appears to have been the case in this instance.

During spring break in America, thousands of college students invade the beaches of the South to drink, party and otherwise act irresponsibly, often with some pretty serious consequences, but hopefully this teenager learned her lesson and will follow the law in the future.

It would appear, after all, that she has a pretty good role model in her mother.
