Military Wife Can’t Get Rid of “Itch,” Then Doctor Finally Finds Chilling, Cancerous Cause

Military Wife Cant Get Rid of Itch Then Doctor Finally Finds Chilling Cancerous Cause

When Kayla Gaytan went to the doctor with a persistent itch, she didn’t think it would lead to some of the most difficult moments of her life.

After consulting with several doctors, Gaytan was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, just one week after she was married, “Today” reported.

Hodgkin’s lymphoma is cancer of the lymph system. Gaytan received intensive chemotherapy for five months, and went into remission in June.

After being declared in remission, Gaytan, who already had two children with her soldier husband, discovered that she was expecting quadruplets — another stunning development in her life after she had been told by doctors she probably wouldn’t be able to have any more children.

“There were four healthy heart beats. It’s truly a miracle,” she explained. “I called my husband when I got to the parking lot and he was really surprised and thought he misheard me … we were just kind of in shock.”

Unfortunately Gaytan’s cancer came back in November before she could deliver her children. Before receiving chemotherapy, she had to have an emergency C-section.

All four children were safely delivered, but now Gaytan has to undergo more cancer treatment, CBS News reported.

“I want my kids to understand when they get older that I fought as hard as I could for them. No matter the outcome at the end,” she stated.

WLEX noted that doctors have stated that Gaytan only has a 50 percent chance of surviving the next five years, but she is determined to see this thing through to the end.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the Gaytans with their expenses which, as the parents of four newborns, can be considerable.

The lesson from this story is to be careful trusting what doctors tell you. They’re humans; they make mistakes. Gaytan was told for over a year that her itch was nothing serious, when in fact it was quite serious.

Perhaps if doctors had gotten the diagnosis correct in the first place, Gaytan and her family wouldn’t now be worrying over whether she will live to see her children grow up.
