As first lady of the United States, Melania Trump will likely have her life and actions scrutinized even more so than during her time as a model and wife of a billionaire businessman.

Such scrutiny began over the weekend after a spokeswoman for the first lady announced she and 10-year-old son Barron would be returning to New York after only a few days in Washington, D.C.

The spokesperson told CNN, “The first lady thanks everyone for their support and a beautiful welcome to Washington. She is returning to New York in advance of the school week and will be splitting her time between Washington and New York for the next few weeks.”

According to an earlier statement by President Donald Trump, the first lady and their son will join the president at the White House after the end of the school year.

Melania performed her duties as first lady throughout the inauguration by accompanying her husband at the swearing-in ceremony as well as other inaugural events and festivities.

She also issued her initial official FLOTUS tweet on Saturday.

News of Melania’s return to New York was not the only time she made news over the weekend.

Breitbart reported the first lady also captured headlines when she was overcome by the performance of How Great Thou Art by 20-year-old Marlana VanHoose at the National Prayer Service held Saturday at the Washington National Cathedral.

Throughout the song, the first lady could be seen wiping away tears.

VanHoose, who is blind and has cerebral palsy, delivered such a moving performance, the first lady stood and applauded, prompting a standing ovation from the congregants of the church.

Breitbart reporter Joel B. Pollack called the incident “the heart of the inauguration.”

In a quote to Voice of America, he said, “I felt in many ways this was the heart of the inauguration. It was the nation coming together in humility, praying together and asking God for help.”
