First lady Michelle Obama welcomed first-lady-to-be Melania Trump to the White House on Thursday for a traditional visit that occurs between presidential wives as the transition between administrations takes place.
While this was probably a somewhat awkward moment for the two women after such a rough campaign season — the first lady having called President-elect Donald Trump a sexual predator not long ago — Melania Trump handled it with class. She apparently left the campaign in the past and chose to focus on the future.
If you’re wondering what the two women discussed, it was something that is important to most of us: family.
The two women enjoyed tea on the White House’s Truman balcony and discussed child rearing in the White House, according to White House press secretary Josh Earnest.
The visit, their first, was kept from reporters, but Earnest later told reporters what the meeting entailed.
“Obviously the first lady’s two daughters spent their formative years of their childhood at the White House, and Mrs. Trump’s son will also spend some important years of his childhood here at the White House,” he said, according to Politico.
Referring to Trump’s son, Baron, who is 10 years old, Earnest said, “That’s a rather unique childhood, and the two women had an opportunity to talk about that experience and being a good parent through that experience.”
Obama also gave Trump a tour of the White House, and then the two ladies went to the Oval Office where they joined their husbands for a chat before the Trumps left.
Talk about a class act.
Having Melania Trump in the White House as first lady will be like breath of fresh air, and we can’t wait for January to arrive.
