Wildfires have been breaking out all across America, with houses lost and possessions destroyed. It’s been a particularly awful late winter in that respect, with fires raging in several states.
While that’s certainly nothing to take lightly, we did find a glimmer of hope with the amazing way this one homeowner managed to save his house. Now a photo of how he protected his home is going viral.
According to Facebook group U.S. Army WTF Moments, the picture comes from Kansas, which has seen some of the worst wildfires.
Before he evacuated the premises, the unnamed homeowner decided to leave his sprinklers on. The Kansas Army National Guard took an aerial photo of what he returned to. Take a look:
Absolutely unbelievable! In a desolate field of burnt-out destruction, a couple of lawn sprinklers managed to save this house from being burned to the ground. I never would have figured that this would have worked — and you can see why it had been shared almost 7,000 times as of Monday morning.
“This is in my hometown! These people were very lucky that they started watering their lawn days prior to the fires. Ten other families were not so lucky,” Facebook user Amanda Eales wrote.
“Man, I bet his next water bill is going to be huge, but it’s all worth it,” Launeng Yang said.
Kansas is far from the only state where the fires are a major problem. According to The Dallas Morning News, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has declared a state of emergency after fires ravaged his state’s panhandle.
CNN also reported 400,000 acres burned in Oklahoma as well as 30,000 acres in Colorado. Seven people have died because of the fires.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this natural disaster. Hopefully they can be as lucky as this man.
