America’s sluggish economy continues to try to extricate itself from the rubble of the Obama years. Obamacare is a broken, moribund program that puts premiums and deductibles out of financial reach for most American families. Terrorists with Bronze Age ideologies have embedded themselves in failed states like Libya and Syria.
So, let’s please talk about the handshake between President Trump and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, which is apparently become a cause celebre among liberals for some reason.
Canada’s Trudeau embarked on his first visit to the White House under the Trump administration this week, in a meeting that The New York Times says was designed to try and maintain the close political and economic ties between the two countries.
In spite of the Canadian prime minister’s liberal proclivities, the principals went out of their way to avoid controversy. Trudeau, an ardent critic of Trump’s temporary immigration ban, pointedly remarked that “the last thing Canadians expect is for me to come down and lecture another country on how they choose to govern themselves.”
However, the left needed something to talk about, so here’s a handshake that liberals apparently though was a little too strong between the American president and Canadian prime minister:

As you may have heard, 2016 was not a winning year for the Democrat Party, and 2017 isn’t shaping up to be a lot better. For some people on the left, however, they’ll take their victories where they can get them.
But the attention this non-story drew among liberals on social media is simply astonishing. This is how they choose to spend their time after one of the most historic political upsets in American history?
Trudeau looks like he ran prevent D on the Trump arm-ripper handshake. https://t.co/LqabBWN8BM

Trudeau won the Trump Tug of War handshake. Can’t wait for Trump Tweet claiming Trudeau cheated. “tricked me. Sad. Sweaty palms.” https://t.co/HrzUxxRqzN

Whoa! Trudeau was prepared for the handshake. Didn't let Trump do it. Awesome. https://t.co/fDTOxWH1zt

I’m hearing that Trudeau won his handshake with Trump. Is this a thing now?

When candidate Trump said, “We’re going to win so much, you’re going to get tired of winning,” I don’t think handshakes are quite what he meant.
It’s easy to see why liberals would root for Justin Trudeau. After all, his father — the late Pierre Elliott Trudeau — led Canada for most of the period between 1968 and 1984. The elder Trudeau, who drove flashy sports cars and dressed like a low-rent Tom Wolfe, also won the hearts of liberals by allowing Vietnam-era American draft dodgers to stay in Canuckistan as a temporary home and native land.
Of course, Justin’s no slouch either when it comes to winning liberal hearts. His saccharine, willfully ignorant words of praise for Fidel Castro upon the Cuban leader’s death made him the hero of baristas from sea to shining sea.
However, let me remind you — it’s a freaking handshake. And not only that, I did not get the impression that anyone seems to have “won” it, or tried to win it. I look at this video and don’t see President Trump doubled over, clutching his right hand, his face a rictus of physical pain. I don’t even see him wince.
If this is your idea of a victory, I have some sage advice for you: get better goals.
