President-elect Donald Trump just asked the Department of Homeland Security for a complete report of all of President Barack Obama’s immigration policies — probably with an eye toward reversing many of them.
According to Breitbart, Trump expected to use those reports to figure out how to make the United States border more secure. Of course his security plans also include building a wall between the U.S and Mexico.
An exclusive report by Reuters revealed that Trump asked for the documents in order to “assess all assets available for border wall and barrier construction.”
Trump immediately identified some of President Obama’s executive orders that he planned to undo.
One example was Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. DACA is a 2012 order in which children who are brought to the U.S. illegally by their parents can remain in the country on temporary authorizations that allow them to attend college and work.
Another example was an act known as Deferred Action for Parents of Americans, which exempts illegal-alien parents from deportation if their children are U.S. citizens.
Trump also hoped to investigate if any immigrant records have been tampered with or changed.
During a meeting that took place Dec. 5, Trump and his transition team not only requested those reports but also tackled another big issue: the wall. Trump and his team identified 400 miles along the U.S-Mexican border where new parts of a wall will be erected.
Donald Trump himself said he will take these steps to “establish new immigration controls to boost wages and to ensure that open jobs are offered to American workers first” by enforcing immigration law.
